THE PRESENT
2026 — NOW

China's TMSR-LF1 Operational

China's 2MW experimental thorium molten salt reactor in the Gobi Desert has been operating since 2023. They've allocated $3.3 billion and plan a 373MW commercial version by 2030. They're not waiting for permission.

2026 — NOW

India's Three-Stage Program

India sits on the world's largest thorium reserves (963,000 tons). Their three-stage nuclear program, designed specifically to exploit thorium, has been running since the 1950s. Stage 3 — the thorium stage — is approaching readiness.

2027

First US MSR License Decision

The NRC is reviewing applications from Kairos Power, Terrestrial Energy, and others. Kairos's Hermes test reactor in Oak Ridge, TN broke ground in 2023. The first construction permit for a new US reactor design in decades.

THE NEAR FUTURE
2028-2030

First Commercial MSR Grid Power

Multiple designs reach commercial readiness. Small modular reactors (SMRs) using molten salt begin displacing natural gas peaker plants. Each unit: the size of a shipping container, producing 50-100MW.

2030-2032

Thorium MSR at Scale

China deploys a 373MW thorium reactor. India activates its first thorium breeder. Cost of thorium-generated electricity drops below coal. The crossover point. After this, it's economics, not politics.

2033

Industrial Heat Revolution

MSRs operate at 700°C+, hot enough for industrial processes: cement, steel, hydrogen production, desalination. Factories begin replacing fossil fuel furnaces with reactor heat. Industrial emissions start falling sharply.

THE TRANSFORMATION
2035

Desalination at Scale

Thorium-powered desalination plants produce fresh water for pennies per gallon. Coastal cities in Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia gain access to unlimited clean water. Water scarcity begins to end.

2037

The Data Center Migration

AI data centers — consuming 5%+ of global electricity — begin co-locating with MSR plants. Server farms powered by their own dedicated reactors. The Knuckledragger Empire runs on thorium. Electricity cost: functionally zero.

2040

Nuclear Waste Recycling

MSRs can burn existing nuclear waste as fuel. The 80,000+ metric tons of spent uranium fuel sitting in storage pools around the world becomes an energy source instead of a liability. The waste problem begins solving itself.

THE DREAM
2042

$0.001/kWh Electricity

Mass-produced, factory-built MSR modules bring the cost of electricity below 1/10th of a cent per kWh. Home electricity bills: $4/month. Scarcity-based energy economics collapse. Abundance is the new baseline.

2045

Global Carbon Negative

With unlimited clean energy, direct air carbon capture becomes economically viable at planetary scale. We begin removing CO₂ faster than we emit it. The climate curve bends downward.

2050

Energy Abundance for All

Every nation has access to clean, safe, nearly-free energy. Small thorium reactors power remote villages, island nations, and space habitats. Energy is no longer a constraint on human development. It just works. Like gravity. Like Tuesdays.

THE DREAM REALIZED

None of this requires new physics. It requires new politics. The chemistry works. The engineering works. The economics work. We just need enough stubborn, unreasonable people to build it.
